The winter can be a rough time of year for mountain bikers and downhillers in cold climates. Most of the mountain bike trails are not in respectable shape, leaving mountain bikers to look for alternate means of entertainment and training. Most of us at the shop fire-up the motocross bikes and hit the tracks.
The Need For Speed
Motocross can make a huge difference in your mountain biking. First of all, motocross bikes are fast… really fast. Once you get used to the warp speed involved in motocross, mountain biking just doesn’t seem that scary by comparison.
“When in doubt, throttle out”
Any time you have to navigate technical features or feel uneasy
about landing a jump, just mash the throttle and most often the bike’s suspension and power will take care of you. Similar to mountain
bikers panicking and grabbing the brakes, tensing-up makes matters worse. Staying loose and charging through is a concept everyone
can use.
Sweet Soreness
Additionally, motocross is awesome physical training. Controlling the motocross bike, balancing, and transferring weight is a tough workout and will pay dividends on the mountain bike. |
